Administrative history

York, South Circuit, was formed on 1 September 1981 through the amalgamation of the York, Wesley and Centenary Circuits of the Methodist Connexion. The new circuit was part of the wider York and Hull District of the Methodist Church.

At its formation, the Circuit included the following chapels in York: Centenary, Wesley, Melbourne Terrace, St George's, Southlands, and Lidgett Grove. Outside of York it included chapels at Acaster Malbis, Acomb, Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe, Deighton, Dunnington, Fulford, Heslington, Hessay, Heworth, Holgate, Poppleton, Rufforth, Stamford Bridge, Stillingfleet, Warthill and West Thorpe.

In 2012 the York, North and South Circuits amalgamated to form a single York Circuit of the Methodist Connexion.
