History

John Overton was born c.1763, the son of George Overton of Monk Fryston, Yorkshire. He was awarded his BA in 1786 and his MA in 1803.

Until 1802 he was assistant curate to William Richardson, a leading York evangelist. Between 1802 and 1838 he was Rector of St Margaret in Walmgate and St Crux in Fossgate, York.

John Overton died in July 1838.
