Some of the record series created by the Organisation Office are important in providing information on the management structure and working practices of the factory and company as a whole and merit description in some detail here.

Standing Orders and Instructions were handbooks, issued to managers and directors and returned to the Organisation Office at regular intervals to be amended and kept up to date. They form a detailed guide to the policy, authority, responsibilities and interrelationship of each division, function and department, information and statistics collected and distributed; procedures, standards and rules covering all aspects of factory and office work. Copies of certain relevant sections of the Standing Orders and Instructions (relating to all employment matters, health and safety, factory rules, welfare and medical provision etc.), were sent to factory departmental managers to distribute to overlookers. None of the extant copies of the Standing Orders and Instructions are later in date than 1933. (The files were stamped with a date stamp each time they were returned to the Organisation Office for amendment.) At that time the widespread circulation of the files seems to have ceased. Editions of selected parts of the Standing Orders may subsequently have been issued to specific groups of mangers, as suggested by Lloyd Owen in April 1933.

The Bulletin formed a constant update to the Standing Orders and Instructions, issued weekly by the Organisation Office. It contained information concerning appointments and promotions of directors, managers, section heads and higher grade overlookers, new posts created, departments created, abolished, re-organised or transferred to another Function; transfer of responsibilities between departments, changes in procedures, rules for employees, policies relating to overtime, wages, unemployment, pensions, discipline holidays, health, safety and hygiene. Details of appointments to Directorships of associated companies were also announced (but not information on internal management of these companies). In addition the Bulletin served as a 'Works Diary' with details of arrangements for general holidays, absence of managers, annual stocktaking, cleaning and painting; air raid and blackout measures; information about lectures, classes and special events. In May 1969 the Cocoa Works Bulletin was replaced by Divisional Bulletins issued by Divisional Chairmen.

Prior to 1922 responsibility for factory and office rules, procedures and discipline rested with T.H. Appleton, the Factory Manager and similar reference files of Standing Orders issued from the 'G Room' can be found amongst his papers.
