These reports cover every aspect of the work of departments within the Labour Division, statistical and analytical information on the labour situation at the Cocoa Works, labour relations, wage rates and the labour market generally.
There are separate reports from each of the departments or sections, giving details of the medical, dental, optical, social and educational work of the Division and other services such as the Canteen and laundry; reports from the Chief Shop Steward and information concerning the Central and Departmental Works Councils. The report also covers the Psychological Department, the Cocoa Works Magazine, and from 1928 the Suggestion Scheme.
Information concerning the labour situation and policy covers the following areas (although this is not an exhaustive list): significant events during the year in the areas of labour relations or the labour market, developments in labour policy and practice; the extent and effects of seasonal employment, short time working, overtime and dismissals; the quality of the workforce as a whole; wage negotiations, grading of employees, wage advances, bonus schemes, holiday and other special payments, changes in the system of setting wage rates; comparative employment figures by age, sex, status (ie clerical or operative) and over time; details of the turnover of male and female workers; and the 'general tone of the works' (an overview of the atmosphere and attitude amongst the employees).
Each report is for the year October to September. The report for 1924 also gives some information for the years 1922-1923, as no reports were submitted for these years.
