Oscar Frederic Rowntree was born in 1879, the son Quaker chocolate manufacturer Joseph Rowntree, and his wife Emma Antoinette Seebohm. In 1903 he married Isabelle Mary Hutchinson; the couple had four children together.
Oscar was a director of the family company, Rowntree & Co, from 1905 and was also active in political circles, chairing the York and Thirsk division of the Liberal Association and serving as a Liberal councillor. He was also a member of the committee for The Retreat, the Quaker psychiatric hospital established by the Tuke family, and of the Health and Housing Reform Association of York, as well as serving on the boards of the Joseph Rowntree Trusts established by his father.
He died in 1947.
