History

Professor Takamiya was born in Tokyo in 1944. He studied English at Keio University and achieved his doctorate in English at Sheffield University in 1998. He has taught at Keio University and the University of Cambridge where, as a graduate student in the 1970s, he began collection historic manuscripts. As of 2014 he was Professor Emeritus at Keio University.

Professor Takamiya was also a councillor on the board of the English Literature Society Japan, 1995-2004, trustee and later president of the Japan Society for Medieval English Studies, 1995-2009, trustee of the New Chaucer Society, 2004-2009, and director of The Humanities Media Research Institute at Keio University.
