Name of creator
The United Nations Association, York Branch, was active from at least 1958. In 1959 it had 65 members and in 1964 Lord James, Vice Chancellor of the newly established University of York, became its Vice President.
Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute in 2006.

Copies of United Nations Association constitution, 1988-1990; committee minutes, including minutes of annual general meetings and related papers, 1958-1996; membership papers, comprising lists of members, 1992-2002, welcome leaflet, n.d., copies of ‘Membership Matters’ newsletters, 2000-2002, and related correspondence, 1988-2002; flyers, correspondence, press cuttings and photographs relating to political events, 1962-1998; promotional material, notes and photographs relating to social events, 1967-1996.
Further accruals are expected.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.
Conditions governing reproduction
A reprographics service is available to researchers subject to the access restrictions outlined above. Copying will not be undertaken if there is any risk of damage to the document. Copies are supplied in accordance with the Borthwick Institute for Archives' terms and conditions for the supply of copies, and under provisions of any relevant copyright legislation. Permission to reproduce images of documents in the custody of the Borthwick Institute must be sought.
